Mother’s Day has always been a time to reflect on the incredible role mothers play in shaping our lives, families and communities.
This year feels especially meaningful to me personally, as I prepare to become a grandmother for the first time. It has made me reflect on how motherhood evolves through life. People often say that grandparents love their grandchildren even more than their own children. I don’t believe the love becomes greater – I think it becomes deeper, wiser and stronger through all the experiences life brings.
As mothers and grandmothers, we carry stories, lessons, traditions, resilience and care from one generation to the next. Over time, we learn that some of the most important things we give are not material at all – they are presence, comfort, guidance, patience and unconditional love.
Working in our services, we are reminded every day how important these relationships are.
- We see the joy that visits from children and grandchildren bring to residents.
- We see memories come alive through conversations, laughter, photographs and shared moments.
The role of mothers and grandmothers does not diminish with age – it continues to shape families and communities in powerful ways.
Today, I would like to acknowledge and thank all mothers, grandmothers, stepmothers, carers, and the many women who nurture and support others throughout their lives. Your strength, care and wisdom leave a lasting impact that reaches far beyond your own family.
Wishing everyone a very happy Mother’s Day.
