Vasey RSL Care depends on Government for funding for various parts of our business, such as residential aged care and home care contributions and grants for specific programs, as well as support within Government to further the cause of the unique needs of veterans and their families.
Over the past three years, this work has become central to our organisation, forging stronger relationships to enable us to achieve our strategic goals of responding to the changing needs of our community.
This initiative is bearing fruit, with stronger ties to all three levels of government and better awareness of our work among both members themselves and their advisers and support teams.
Vasey RSL Care is doing important work for our community. We are the largest Australian provider of veteran-centred accommodation services. Our programs are innovative and responsive to the needs of current veterans of all ages.
Ensuring that our elected officials are aware of what we do, particularly in their electorates, is vital, and we have been delighted to have many opportunities to show and talk about our services with government representatives this year.
In March, we welcomed Zoe Daniels and Tim Wilson on separate visits to our Brighton Aged Care Home, each vying for the Federal seat of Goldstein!
In April, to mark ANZAC Day, Colin Brooks MP, Jodie Belyea MP, and Paul Edbrooke MP, each took up our invitation to come and bake ANZAC biscuits with our residents, Colin at Bundoora, and both Jodie (pictured This has become an annual event and is greatly enjoyed by all.
In July, a ceremony was held during NAIDOC Week at our Cheltenham Ex-Service Accommodation and we were delighted to welcome Mark Dreyfus MP, Federal Member for Isaacs and Meng Heang Tak MP, State Member for Clarinda.
Victorian Upper House Member, Sonja Terpstra MP visited our Bundoora Residential Aged Care site and our soon-to-be-completed Ex-Service Accommodation in September, joining us for a tour and a chat, and generously bringing a food donation for our Homelessness Week drive.
Luke Gosling OAM MP, Special Envoy for Defence, Veterans’ Affairs and Northern Australia (and also a veteran) visited the V Centre in early September. Luke cares deeply about the challenges facing the veteran community and spent time meeting with current and former Veteran Empowerment Program participants and hearing their stories of resilience in the face of adversity. Luke advocates for veterans across Australia and we are thankful for his time and interest.
