Vasey RSL Care Brighton is situated in the lovely Kamesburgh Gardens, located at the corner of North Road and Cochrane Street and just over 1km from the beach. It is a very peaceful environment and and well-known in the neighbourhood for the stunning Moreton Bay Fig tree in the centre of the main courtyard area. There are safe, level paths around the home and throughout the Kamesburgh gardens for residents to take advantage of. A smaller internal courtyard is perfect for barbecue lunches and has container gardens cared for by residents who enjoy gardening. Vasey RSL Care Brighton is our smallest home, home to 40 residents in our Flynn, Baillieu, Rockingham and Thompson sections.
Vasey RSL Care is a not-for-profit provider of aged care and accommodation with a proud history of supporting the ex-service community, ie veterans and war widows. Note that we welcome people from all walks of life – you do not have to be a veteran or war widow to fit in here!
Our Promises to our community are derived from what our community has told us is important: they are Traditional Values, Care, Security, Camaraderie, Dignity, Fulfillment and Quality. Our care is resident-focused and resident-directed so that each resident retains control over their life. Our goal is to support our residents’ goals.
While excellent care is essential, enjoying life is just as important! ‘Thrive’ is our lifestyle and leisure program: we are committed to supporting every person’s health and wellbeing to enable them to thrive. We all have a need for cultural, emotional, physical, social and spiritual wellbeing, but we are all different, so the things that give us meaning and purpose are different for each of us. Click on the image to read about our Thrive program and see some of the regular activities we offer. Our Brighton home has been presented with five Better Practice Awards from the Australian Aged Care Quality and Safety Commission in recognition of our commitment to the complete wellbeing of residents.
Vasey RSL Care Brighton has full government accreditation against the Aged Care Quality Standards and has met all compliance requirements.
Vasey RSL Care has strong ties to many organisations such as local RSL sub-branches, the Vietnam Veterans Association Australia, currently serving ADF members at both Simpson Barracks and HMAS Cerberus, and many other ex-service groups and organisations. Our organisation holds commemoration services for both ANZAC Day and Remembrance Day at each of our aged care homes, and all new staff have a full day’s induction training at the Melbourne Shrine of Remembrance so that they have an understanding and appreciation of the background of many of our residents.
Star of the Sea School is also located in Kamesburgh Gardens and their students have been active volunteers for our Brighton home for many years. Their support of our activities and involvement in commemorations is valued and appreciated by residents and their families.
