The Veteran Community Story Writing and Art Competition (SWAC) has been running every year since 1962, to encourage the ex-service community to use writing, art and craft to help overcome trauma experienced during their service.
On Friday, the launch of the Art, Craft and Photography Exhibition took place at the Heidelberg Repatriation Hospital, with competition entries on display.
Congratulations to all competitors and especially to our own resident, Keith Walsh at Cheltenham Independent Living Units, for receiving a first prize and an honorable mention for his ‘Rising Sun’ and ‘Complaints Department’ (see below).
Congratulations also to the talented crafts people at Sir William Hall Hostel and Vasey Brighton East, who also received honorable mentions for their entries into the craft section, with ‘Forget-me-not’ and ‘Flanders Fields’.
The exhibition will be open to the public all this week, from 10am to 3pm on Monday to Friday, and from 12pm to 4pm on Saturday and Sunday in the Wattle Hall at the Austin Repatriation Hospital. The display is well worth a visit.
Below are just a few examples of the entries in various categories from watercolours and woodwork to ceramics and poetry. The variety, quality and amount of time the entries would have taken are all very impressive.
