A Message from our CEO for ANZAC Day
Today we come together to mark ANZAC Day. And aren’t we lucky to be able to do that this year?
We still need to be cautious, but we can come together to remember all those who served our nation in war time and peace time.
One of the things that marked 2020 as being so very different was the lack of coming together to mark important days or events. It was a year where the highlights were missing. And this was compounded by the concerns that Vasey RSL Care might be put on the market and our future was in grave doubt.
This was a year of uncertainty and endurance. It stretched and strained us all. At times it pushed us to our limits.
But… we endured!
We put our best foot forward.
We supported one another.
We showed that we can be strong, we can do what we need to do.
All of us – residents, clients, families, staff, volunteers, and all the people who support our community – service providers, suppliers, contractors… We all endured.
The pandemic did not reach our residents.
The sale that had been talked about did not eventuate.
And here we are – commemorating ANZAC Day 2021 – remembering the men and women who have been examples to us all.
These people who serve our nation in war and peace know what it is to trust and support each other through the most difficult times. They know the meaning of camaraderie and facing whatever challenges arise. They know what it is to protect lives and face the unknown with fortitude; they know about endurance.
They are our example.
And our residents and clients have shown those same qualities: we are privileged to know you, to share time with you and to learn from you.
Because of the way our community has responded, we have come out of this time stronger, smarter and more capable. We have learnt so much!
And we are more committed than ever to go on doing what we know we can do – serve those who served. These experiences have not weakened us – they have strengthened us! They have shown us what we are capable of. They have given us greater confidence and conviction in our mission!
On this day, when we remember the courage and conviction of all those who have served, past and present, let us not forget the sacrifices they made and let us use their example to continue our mission to serve those who served.
