The 2016 survey has been reduced from 41 to 26 questions and adjusted to align the questions with the goals of the organisation, as detailed in ‘Our Promises to Our Residents’: each section asks for residents’ views on one promise.
“We are aiming for the best possible health and happiness for all our residents,” says Janna Voloshin, CEO. “Each of Our Promises encompasses one aspect of our care goals, under the headings Care, Traditional Values, Security, Camaraderie and Dignity. These promises underpin everything we do and help us maintain our focus on the residents and their health and wellbeing.”
The survey is anonymous, and where needed, family members assist residents to complete it.
Residents were asked to choose from four responses to each statement: ‘always’, ‘usually’, ‘sometimes’ and ‘never’: 73% of the surveys were returned.
Combining the responses ‘always’ and ‘usually’, the result for nearly all statements averaged over 90%, with many in the high 90’s.
“In residential aged care, our staff are our most important asset, so we were very pleased with the results relating to our promise to provide care that is compassionate and warm,” says Janna.
“The results are extremely positive, are consistent with findings from previous years and demonstrate that Vasey RSL Care residential aged care services are achieving our promises to residents,” says Annette Greenwood, General Manager Quality & Risk (pictured, left with CEO, Janna Voloshin).
“There are opportunities for improvement and any ‘sometimes’ and ‘never’ responses will be used as indicators for further investigation with residents.”
Individual Staff Who Salute Excellence
Vasey RSL Care salutes excellence in aged care and we asked respondents if there were any individual staff they wished to ‘salute’. Many respondents indicated that they would like to salute all staff for the work they do, for their kindness, attentiveness and care.
In addition, 199 individual names were mentioned, some multiple times: these staff members have been acknowledged with a letter from their Residential Manager to commend them for the positive characteristics they exhibit in doing their work, and helping enable residents to have the best possible life experience in the care of Vasey RSL Care.
“I would like to thank all our staff for everything that they do for our residents,” says Janna. “We know that some people move into residential aged care reluctantly and feel a sense of loss when they leave their familiar surroundings and community. It is a credit to our personal care workers, clinical staff, care coordinators, lifestyle staff, kitchen and laundry staff, maintenance team and volunteers to receive such exceptional responses from our residents.”
