MasterChef comes to Vasey RSL Care

Vasey RSL Care’s “MasterChef” cook-off has evolved into one of our most significant lifestyle events in recent years.  Initially held between two residential facilities, it has grown to include teams of residents at all five of our homes across Melbourne.

The assignment for 2014 was to bake a “Birthday Cake fit for a Queen” with the final results being judged at a celebratory lunch at RSL Park in Frankston South on the of 6 June, the date coinciding with the Queen’s Birthday long weekend.

The residents spent a number of weeks choosing and testing their recipes, agreeing on the design and presentation and finally cooking and decorating the final product.

Residents were transported to RSL Park on the day with the prized entries, where they enjoyed a special lunch in their honour, prior to the formal judging. 

Each home gave a presentation which told the story of their cake-making journey and the teamwork and camaraderie enjoyed throughout the project. These very creative presentations included a video of the “Queen’s address”, songs and shared recitals. MasterChef aprons, hats and many sparkling tiaras were the dress code for the day.

Congratulations went to the winning team from Vasey House Bundoora for their stunningly decorated two tiered Frangelico-infused fruit cake. Each of the entries was outstanding and all participants were rewarded for their efforts on the day.

The judging panel consisted of CEO Janna Voloshin, General Manager Quality & Risk Annette Greenwood and special guest Victorian State President of the War Widows’ Guild, Mrs Wendy Charlton, who we thank for their participation.
