Since 2004, Vasey RSL Care has offered a seniors health and wellbeing program at the ANZAC Day Therapy Centre in Brighton, which was initiated to support the veteran and war widow community. Over the years, this program has provided therapies, advice, events and companionship to hundreds of older Australians and helped them maintain their wellbeing and independence.
In recent years, client numbers have fallen, and despite our best efforts to attract new clients, we have not been able to reverse the overall downward trend. Changes to government legislation and compliance requirements have led to increased overheads for us to run the program. These factors combined brought us to the difficult decision to close the program at the end of the activity sessions just before Christmas.
Our staff have been meeting with each program participant to determine their individual needs and to assist them to find suitable alternative programs. We will continue to do this over the next few months. We have also been working with those staff members affected to determine their path forward and we would like to thank them for all they have done for our clients and for our organisation.
Janna Voloshin, CEO, says, “I would like to take this opportunity, on behalf of Vasey RSL Care, to thank everyone involved in the senior wellbeing program over many years, to those who recommend our program to new clients, to the clients themselves who we have been honoured to serve and to the staff members who have organised and run the program. We sincerely thank all those who provided therapeutic support to clients, for everything you have done for our clients and for our organisation.
“We are aware that change can be very difficult for some people, and if you have any questions about the closure, please contact me via our central office.”
