CEO Janna Voloshin
We are committed to keeping you updated on our progress with our Strategic Plan and towards the goals outlined in our 2020 white paper, ‘Continuing the Mission’.
We have big plans and we are determined to achieve them.
Our Board and Executive Team are progressing our strategic priorities and have begun work on important new initiatives.
Vasey RSL Care has over 550 staff and supports around 900 people. Despite this, our organisation is agile and flexible: we have the ability to respond to the changing and emerging needs of our community members and this is a tremendous asset.
While planning and implementing new initiatives is exciting, we still have a business to run. You can be assured that we will not lose sight of our responsibilities to existing stakeholders: offering the best possible care and service to every aged care resident, home care client and ex-service accommodation resident will always be our number one priority, especially as we continue to fight the global pandemic and maintain our ‘abundance of caution’ approach.
This is not ‘either/or’ – we will maintain our current services and will build on this strong foundation to grow our capability.
An essential first step has been to review our organisational structure: as an organisation that serves those who served, it became clear that a senior role with veteran experience and knowledge was essential to our future plans.
I am very pleased that Chris Gray has accepted the important new role of General Manager – Veteran Services (see below). The downside of this is that we will now have to fill Chris’s previous role.
One of the goals set out in our White Paper is to increase our capacity to support veterans, especially the growing proportion of younger veterans needing housing.
In pursuit of this, we have been able to secure 27 brand new one-bedroom apartments in a new development in Ivanhoe in exchange for our existing 17-unit site.
This exchange will take place when the development completes in 2023.
For our Ivanhoe villagers, this will be quite a change and we will make sure that they are supported throughout the transition. So far, their response has been very positive.
From a strategic perspective, acquiring ten additional homes for veterans/war widows/partners is a very exciting stride forwards, providing state-of-the-art housing for our community.
I will be bringing you regular updates on our progress with these and other aspects of our goals throughout the year ahead. This will not be an easy year, with the pandemic far from over and much to do, but it will certainly be a very different year from 2020. We have a lot to look forward to.
Chris Gray has been with Vasey RSL Care for over four years as a member of the Property Services team, managing contractors and building projects.
Chris spent 27 years in the ADF, 17 serving and ten in the Reserves. He had six overseas tours of duty, serving in New Guinea, Papua New Guinea, twice in East Timor, Iraq and Indonesia.
He is an active member of his local RSL Sub-branch and joined their Committee early last year.
He is also a keep participant in RSL Active, a health and welbeing initiative that connects veterans via a range of activities, taking place via Zoom throughout 2020.
Janna says, “I look forward to working with Chris and having his invaluable lived experience as an asset both in our future planning and new innovations.”
